This homepage gives an overview of the windmills on Saaremaa island (also known with its german name Oesel). In the past there existed over 1200 windmills on Saaremaa. These windmills were owned mainly by peasants. In Saaremaa exists 3 types of windmills - postmills, so-called windmills "with head" and dutch windmills.
